 A
prairie landscape contains two quintessential elements - Sky and
Grass.
In Sky, it seems, we gaze outward with bewilderment knowing that it is unpredictable
and can only be imagined, never touched.
Grass, on the other hand, gives us something to plant our feet into, run our
hands through and follow expectantly as it performs its yearly cycle.
As a boy, I often used Grass as a conduit through which I could seemingly reach
the sky. Lying on my back, I could touch the heavens through the fingers and
fronds of the grass.
Anchored by memories, prairie people are forever linked to the grass underfoot
and the sky overhead. I hope that some of my prairie recollections may trigger
memories, hopes and daydreams of those fortunate enough to have laid dwn in the
grass and peered forever upwards.
Inspired by my prairie
beginnings, these images of desert grasses came to light in the Southern Interior
of B.C. around Osoyoos. To me, they are reminiscent
of the past and inspirations for the future.
